It’s election season and Amanda Renteria wants your vote. So who is she and does she deserve it? We’ll take a look at her record and let you decide.
Renteria recently moved to the district, after spending 9 years as a Senate staffer where she made over $1 million in salary, paid for by taxpayers. Shortly after moving to California she announced her bid for Congress, and a look at her funding paints a clear picture of where her support lies.
A large majority of her donations have come from donors living outside of the district, and she’s seen strong support from registered lobbyists in DC. These numbers beg the question, with so much funding coming from lobbyists will she be able to put California first? Or her friends in DC?
On one issue the answer seems to be no. Renteria continues to support Obamacare, despite estimates from the head of California’s health insurance exchange that “nearly one million” Californians may see their health insurance plans disappear when the Affordable Care Act kicks in. That’s what we call putting your DC friends ahead of California.
Given her heavy lobbyist funding and her support for Obamacare, it seems clear that Renteria has already gone Washington.
